What the Brain Bank Singapore does

At the Brain Bank Singapore, we take informed consent for brain donation from healthy individuals as well as those with neurological disorders. This is done via a prospective donor scheme, whereby individuals register as a brain donor while alive to donate their brain tissues for scientific research after death.
The HBRA legislation allows us to take consent from those who are mentally capable of making their own decisions or from the next-of-kin of those who no longer have that capacity. We advise people who are interested in donating their brain and other tissues, such as the spinal cord, to discuss their wishes with their next-of-kin. After the consent procedure has been fully explained to the donor and they wish to proceed, a donor card with a 24/7 emergency call number will then be issued to them.
